I too had an overall good experience flying this past holiday weekend. And boy i was certainly dreading it leading up to my flight.
Booked EWR-ATL on 12/21. Took a VDB for $400 and taxi voucher home with confirmed F departure on 12/22 Bird was Boeing 777 which was a sweet ride. Too bad JFK-ATL is only 1hr 40 min but was nice nonetheless.
Flying back on 12/26. Originally booked CHA-ATL-CVG-JFK (was only flight at mid level award available) but with the storm I called 12/25 morning and changed to a direct ATL-JFK flight. Cleared into V later on 12/25 even after checking in (first time for everything). Flight was a 763 without mods but didn't matter. Had a pretty decent cold lunch (chicken/shrimp platter) and lots of wine! Also won a BFUG from CHA-ATL on CR7 bird (that was my inaugural flight CHA-ATL on a non-CR200 bird. After check in I was #1 (PM on award travel) with 0 available. When I got up the morning of my flight I was still #1 but 1 F seat had opened up. When I got to the gate at CHA the agent was calling my name for a new BP before I even had a chance to sit down. Had a nice quick ride with a hot latina FA (dont' worry, i'm a friend of dorothy's!) who was very generous on the coffee refills.
SC's were busy but no more than usual. And the families with kids were generally well behaved.
only complain is ATL airport. That place is a a massive cluster F. Too many darn people & familes who don't know proper walkway etiquette. If you're going to stop in the middle of a terminal to take a phone call, GET OUT OF THE WAY!
