You are both right. Moondog knows Beijing and he is right that not much happens on this side of town, but there is some business on the west side which is why I've stayed many times at the 3 hotels here, Westin, IC and Ritz Carlton.

Just realize that if you want to get to the other side of town, it is a brutal commute, whether by car or metro. Very late at night though it can be a relatively short taxi ride.
