AAA also produces the same rate. FWIW the PC will be applied at the time of rental, so your final cost would be around 265 or 266 GBP.
I always thought an Amex Plat was an Amex Plat

I didn't realize they had different CDPs either, but I don't see why you wouldn't get the same or similar benefits. You may want to consider calling Hertz and asking, or message them on Twitter (I'd say email but they probably wouldn't get back to you until a year or two after you return the car

Thanks again for your help J. Just one or two more naive questions:
a) if I try to log into my Hertz #1 club membership, even if I
don't check my Amex Plat CDP (which raises rates), it shoots up my rates by 50%: why and how is that?
b) I found the AA promotion: 35% off, and x4 miles -- with both a CDP (the usual AA -- 217692 one) and a PC (169676). The PC doesn't seem to decrease the price anymore than the 10% that I get with the AA code. Is that because it will be applied at rental pick-up (in which case, it's worth keeping), or because it's no additional benefit other than the 4x miles -- in which case, it's a toss-up between getting the extra AA miles or the $25 coupon you kindly pointed out.
thanks!
