I'm in north Queensland right now in December and it's fantastic. If you want an information source I recommend the Australia Government site on the Great Barrier Reef. I have lived in Cairns and Towsnville for a year and a half in each. Jellies are about, but they just put you in a stinger suit. Remember to wear waterproof sunscreen and put it everywhere.
