Back in the day, when I'd go to the counter for something, I'd always hand them my driver's license, boarding pass and, at the time, *G/1P card. But I don't think it ever mattered. It's not as if they ever swiped my elite card to gain easy access to my record.

Good point, but the 1K card is important in foreign countries - I use in on Tam Airlines down in Brazil - these use a Red Card (special check-in perks), SO...if you are an International flyer - using other Star Alliance airlines, then it is important to get that card. Also, the lounge in Brazil allows entrance based on that card. Donīt have to be flying Business Class. Just my two cents.
