I was with a group a few years ago. One of us did not get his bag upon arrival in PVG. KA delivered the luggage to our hotel in Suzhou around midnight.
I think you can receive reimbursement or compensation on delayed luggage. However, the airport staff you are dealing with are probably contract staff. If you need help, you can visit CX's lost/delayed baggage site:
