I wrote UA once to compliment them on this apparent policy. After about a week they apologized for the delay and my inconvenience and gave me a $150 voucher for a future flight. I should compliment them more often.
I wrote UA to compliment the staff for keeping it open as well -- I really was grateful that they left it open when they didn't have to and felt they deserved some recognition for that. I didn't receive a voucher though :P
