I'm going to fly from LHR to Sydney (one way) come Feb 2013 and I've been looking at fares. What I found is Qantas is significantly more expensive than SQ , EK and Air NZ, just about everyone really. When I say more, it's about twice more (GBP 3000 vs GBP 6000).

In fact, I can book a return flight LHR- Sydney return and it's still cheaper than getting one way ticket, both on Qantas (GBP 4000 vs GBP 6000).

Can anyone tell me why Qantas costs so much? It can't be due to monopoly of the route as most airlines fly that route(s).

I'm not whinging, I'm just curious. Am I missing something?
