Bolding mine
As of January 1, 2013, you will no longer be able to redeem e-Miles miles for Delta SkyMilesŪ. We are committed to providing you with the best possible experience and I am happy to share that you will now be able to redeem your miles from a rich catalog of options. If you are eligible and prefer to redeem for Delta SkyMiles, you will have until December 30, 2012 to request a deposit.
So, starting January 1, you can no longer get Delta SkyMiles. But the last day to redeem for Delta SkyMiles is December 30. I guess the date December 31, 2012 evidently does not exist on the calendars at E-miles headquarters.

Anyhow, according to the FAQ page:
Your new reward options will be expanded to include all travel partners available in e-Miles
So in the end, this appears to be a good thing since other E-miles partners include "US Airways Dividend MilesŪ, MileagePlusŪ, Frontier Airlines EarlyReturnsŪ, Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan™, Southwest AirlinesŪ Rapid RewardsŪ"
So those of us locked into getting Delta SkyMiles should theoretically be able to get miles for other airlines.
