Yes, very often to the executives and VIPs of the company holding or sponsoring the conference.
For many of my conferences, there were only 5 or so execs, and since the conference was not responsible for doing the hotel bookings for the attendees, there were essentially no VIPs, other than Plats (NO, I am NOT a DYKWIA!) if you could call Plats that. So I just called and followed my own advice, "If you don't ask, you don't get."
