I am not saying that newbies should not search first. But what is SO obvious to you (an experienced flyer and FTer) may not be obvious to others.
Anyway, I think the OP got his answer already:
He got 4 international upgrades to clear several days before departure time.
He did not get the ones for the 77W to clear but it has been reported here that no seats are being released for upgrades for the 77W yet.
There are plent of seats being released on the 77W. Anyone with EF can check in the fall and see plenty. I was able to secure C for six individuals roundtrip DFW-LHR in October and I am about to get another three roundtrip tomorrow for a different date, so they are being released, you just have to be able to plan that far in advance which can be difficult.
