I have an award reservation at the Hyatt Carmel Highlands. There were only 2 possible awards listed - garden view and ocean view king. I reserved the latter. As soon as I finalized the reservation, NOR1 pops up and upgrade offers were shown, including a 1 bedroom ocean view and an ocean view townhouse. I`ve always pretty much ignored these in the past since as a Diamond, I`m assured Club Room access and room upgrade. But this time was different since I would like to get the ocean view townhouse if possible. I found the offer of the 1 bedroom ocean view odd since I booked the ocean view king; so I guess the some of the ocean view kings have a separate bedroom. But the offer of ocean view townhouse piqued my interest. It only cost $35 which seems like a nominal amount for an upgrade to the townhouse. So I clicked affirmative, and immediately a page pops up that states I will be charged $35 for the upgrade if it is available. But won`t I obtain the upgrade anyway, if it`s available, since I`m a Diamond? Since I`m not guaranteed the townhouse, will this just mean I`ve flushed the money down the toilet if I get upgraded? Or will I really stand a better chance of getting the townhouse because I clicked yes that I`ll pay for it?
