I have booked our trip for August as it is the only time my niece could go due to her college schedule, which includes summer school.
I was thinking we would have no chance for whale watching.
We are also hoping to see turtles at Laniakea beach. If anyone has any suggestions or experience re Laniakea, I would also be interested.

Whale season is basically from December to March-April. We have seen them a hair earlier and a hair later but never in August. We are on Oahu every year and Maui every year. No comparison...Maui is better. We are partial to the Kapalua area of Maui. Never been to Laniakea beach area for turtles but have definitely seen turtles off the Wailea side of Maui on a number of snorkeling tours to Molokini.
