I had a work trip planned to Florida this week, and I booked my wife a mid level (62,500 miles) first class award to travel with me. The job was postponed until January the day before we were supposed to leave. Needless to say I wasn't happy about losing the miles spent on her ticket.

Today I called the Diamond line to book the same trip in January, mine paid, and hers with miles (Lucky enough to find low this time, 45,000 miles). After we were all booked, I politely asked if I could be credited the miles for the original cancelled flight, since I am re-booking the same itinerary, just at a later date. She put me on hold for a few minutes while she checked with a supervisor. She came back and told me they approved the credit. The miles were back in my account within 30 minutes.
