SFO-NRT is definitely UA territory from the mid-1980s. Northwest Orient served this route for a long time along with LAX-NRT. The route might not have been a major market for NW, it had quite a presence in Japan from the 1950s until UA came on the scene. My first transpacific flight was HND-(HNL)-LAX on a Northwest Orient B707. PA and NW, those were the days.
Anyway, SFO-NRT needs FB seats in BE.
two things
1) Why? (other than you say so) do you have any proof that SFO-NRT is one of Delta'stop routes for C(fares and LF)? My guess is no.
2) SFO is the main point to get 767s into mods. Its pretty likely SFO-NRT will be one of the last routes to go full flat bed till the end of 2013.
Just wanted to add....UAL is king dog on this route now. Doesn't matter that NW was flying it first. UA has a huge hub at SFO and its JV partner has a huge hub in NRT. Delta is fighting a hub to hub route. (and you can expect it to be a 76Z route once the fleet is done.)
