I don't consider Pudong the "wrong side" of the river, in fact, I prefer it. Closer to the airport and most of what I need for business, plus many fantastic restaurants and bars.
The "closer to the airport" idea is pet peeve of mine because the difference lies somewhere between negligible and untrue. Even if I were to concede that the Puli is 3km further away, one doesn't need to deal with LJZ traffic in order to get to it, which can easily suck up ten minutes.
And, what are these fantastic restaurants and bars you speak of? I'll give you Suntory (perhaps my favorite restaurant in Shanghai), but Morton's, Paulaner, Hooter's, a handful of stale hotel restaurants/lounges... I'm underwhelmed. The whole experience sort of reminds me of Santa Clara, CA.
