Any updates on this issue? Did anyone who upgraded via the UA website (rather than an agent) have the fare class reported to US change to R? I'm thinking about doing this soon with a friend's RPU but crediting to US is making me nervous.
Print/save your boarding pass(es) and your original e-receipt showing the coach class paid for. If you ask for it after being upgraded, UA will send you a receipt showing "R" class.
My upgrades were done by a friend with his RPU's as well (maybe they were GPU's), which I believe he had to call in for.
