The current "value" is BIS, with some spiffs for Elites and certain fares. So, they value BIS. In another thread, someone here commented this is valuing the person that caused the spend, not the spend. There is more than one way to do it, and AA does have CK. Since they also value cash, they sell points to Citi.
And they aren't the only one. But if you use the a AA Citi Card product you do get some recognition as you'll get 1200 extra AA RDM. So, between AA & Citi, $ vs BIS is somewhat covered already -- if you choose to sign up. If not, it's like not having a FF number.
It ain't as broke as it could be.
We could have the value of DL SkyPesos, the Fuel surcharges of BA, the reported availability of US&DL, Seat roulette like UA, and I could go on. Didn't AAdvantage win the Freddies last year?
Expect changes in AAdvatage to get more like Sky Pesos. Airlines have correctly figured out the current system is broken and dosn't really recognize the true value to the airline.
