Does the award redemption include the insurance on it, or is that extra ?

The reason I ask is, I make my reservations using some combination of CDP and PC's, which almost all the time ensure that the LDW and LIS are included in the rates. That brings my effective car rental rate to almost Zero, or less that $ 10 for a weekend.. so if the award redemption will make me pay tax and insurance, I am in effective paying more for my rental, then I would do otherwise, without using the miles..

If this is the case, I would stop garnering any more points on my Hertz Gold and just continue to transfer them to the Airlines miles..

and before you ask, since I am new in US, I do not have any credit card that would cover the insurance.. so I have to have to buy it from Hertz...
