As for your issue....Sh*t happens...we go through this sooner or later no matter what airline it is handling our bags. If your bags are clearly identifiable, name tag, some other peculiarity, you should not worry.

There is no excuse whatsoever for not being able to get in touch with an airline rep who would take a report or answer questions.
I would certainly worry about whether I would ever get the bags back.
