US has always been very bad about getting cards out. I did not receive my new 2012 card until the end of March. The clubs in Europe and Asia never used to accept the paper cards. The good news is when the UA and CO merger happened there were tons on UA elites without plastic cards. The clubs got used to taking the paper copies.
This is so true, and one of my pet peeves is that people who run up a lot of miles and fly overseas are just the sort of people who may not be at their home address hanging by the mailbox for their cards in February....
But the good news from this thread -- for me at least -- is something I had totally missed otherwise: That the paper re-prints now have the expiration date! This at least gives us a fighting chance. My other pet peeve used to be that when I griped to US about pet peeve #1, they would say, "Oh, you can just print out a copy until then ..." Waving a printed copy of a date-less US card at an LH lounge dragon was like going to a knife fight with ... a printed copy of a date-less US card.
