the reasons you noted why they may not have posted is correct for reg pts, and telling the OP to wait was the correct answer
the agent said that he had reviewed the information regarding the op's stay & told the op to wait 2-4 weeks & the points would post....this lead the op to believe that the points would post on their own & he had to do nothing more....this was once again based on the information he received at the hotel....

the correct answer from the agent would have been to inform the op that he had reviewed the stay in question & the op would have to register for the promo in order to be eligible for the points....

i certainly do not want to take all the responsibility off the op....had he not contacted starwood during the time he was eligible to enroll in the promotion then he would have been at fault....but he did & was told that his reservation had been reviewed, he had received the basic points & the rest would post 2-4 weeks later....

but the op did ask why he had not received the points....if the reservation had been reviewed then the agent should have informed the op that he had not registered....

While it seems you disagree with that. And thats OK
i do disagree with your reasons & i think the op should get the points....i do not think spg would be correct if they do not do so but the op will just have to deal with it & move on in case this happens....
