Argentina theft protection: Excess is full value of the car?

Just booked a couple of car hires from Argentina (FTE and BRC), I couldn't initially believe but it appears that the "excess" on theft protection insurance is "full value of the car" from the booking page. This seems like a huge money-making scam to gaurentee you have to purchase Avis insurance, as whilst I have excess insurance it only covers the first ~£2500GBP in the case of a theft.

Does anyone have experience to know was this just a mistake on the booking website, or is that really the case? How much is the "insurance" for theft, which I presume is going to be bundled with a host of other excesses I don't need and pretty costly. Does anyone know how much?

The car hire itself is already pretty pricey at ~90GBP/day for a Class C car

I'm guessing I will just have to chance it or lump the huge fee (I presume that the chance of theft in Patogonia is pretty low), any thoughts?

(No my credit card doesn't cover as I'm in the UK where it isn't typical to do that)
