I had an opposite reaction a few years ago. I grabbed a few books from my pile as I left the United States for a two week trip in Thailand, Japan and Hong Kong, intending to read them and "gift". On the way out I read Constitutional Chaos: What Happens When the Government Breaks Its Own Laws by Judge Napolitano. He relates case after case of abuses in the US judicial system. I intended to lighten my load over time by leaving books behind, but that book put such a bad light on the US that I was afraid someone without a balancing background in the US would read it and get a very skewed impression of my beloved country. So I lugged the thing all the way back and disposed of it on US soil.
