I think we're all missing the point.
The shorthaul use of new aircraft types is to give flight and cabin crew hours in the type not for customer enjoyment. That's an added bonus, customers enjoy and gives good PR for BA, but the main purpose of proofing flights is for the guys and girls who will eventually operate to wherever on longhaul to familiarize themselves with everything on board.
