I am a Diamond member and will be using points for this stay.I know if using points PH is a better option as you get the club deluxe room which is larger (which matters to be as I will have 2 kids with me) however PH will be far away for New Year celebrations

My questions are

1) What size room can I expect as a diamond especially on this night?
2) Should I look to pay for this night and use my suite certificate (which are expiring in Feb and I have no use for them)? Considering the night, my guess is suites will be paid for as well, hence my guess is my chances are less
3) What benefits can I expect as a diamond member?

Thanks
Season’s Greetings!

If you haven’t booked already I would be very surprised if you could use your confirmable suite upgrade at all
One typically has to book very far out for such special events and holidays
Also if the hotel is at high occupancy I would be thinking twice about staying there with my family in a club room.
IMHO I think the standard club room is highly adequate for one or two people
I tried to get the Grand Hyatt in San Francisco for New Years and didn't care how much I spent but could not get a suite
for full revenue or using my confirmable upgrade over a month ago
I thought about the Hyatt Regency SF but chickened out after a number of bad reviews.
Haven’t been there in years and those are bad reviews on non event days
Instead I booked the InterContinental SF one of my faves in the city

If I was in your shoes I’d call the hotel front office manager in advance of arrival and ask nicely for the largest room possible.
Hopefully you don’t have to take the standard club they give out to Diamonds.
You would still have access to the lounge and you will have a significantly larger more spacious accommodation that almost feels close enough to a jr suite in size (one large guest room) without the additional cost creep of buying a suite which will certainly come at a very steep price probably hundreds or double what you normally would pay on such a non event day.
I’m a big fan of these larger rooms. Without them I wouldn’t stay at the hotel as they aren’t suite friendly here.
The view may not suit your tastes as they face the back of the hotel where the rr tacks are.
These rooms also can hear some slight elevator noise. Having said that I am a light sleeper and had no problem whatsoever and it is my go to room.
However I like the room personally as I can always go the club and see the best views of all
Standard Diamond benefits apply /club access
And complimentary usage of one of Melbournes best fitness centers

This is one of those rare Hyatts that is not suite friendly at all and will let suites go empty rather than upgrade
My only pet peeve with this otherwise fantastic property
Having said that it’s also one of my favorite Hyatt’s in the world! The team and the Grand Club are simply world class!
Last year it was fantastic and I’m back after the holidays in 2013
Cheers
