My top tips:
* try to get a window seat for privacy (note: window seats face backwards, choose an aisle seat if this is a problem)
* on the 747 upper deck seats are the best, on the 777 avoid rows 10, 12 and 15 because these seats are missing a window
* if on an overnight flight ignore the service and try to get as much sleep as possible - eat and drink in the lounge or hotel prior to departure
* when sleeping do not be afraid to remove your shirt and trousers but keep on your socks as your feet can get cold, use the eyeshade and ear plugs
* if on a day flight take some reading material and personal entertainment just in case the in-flight entertainment does not interest you
* experiment with the seat and footrest to get the hang of it and do not be afraid to use it
* master the footrest - there are three usable positions (i) low and flat, (ii) low and diagonal, (iii) low and flat
* use the amenity kit - it does help to keep you feeling fresh during the flight, but save the moist wipe and eye revive cream in packets to the end
* do not expect anything more for your money than space, privacy and comfort
* at LHR on the outbound sector, head over to T5B as early as possible if the flight is leaving from there (ask at check in) as I find the lounge more pleasant due to lower passenger volumes, however do not go to T5C early as there is no lounge there
* if arriving into LHR in the early morning, be sure to use the arrivals lounge for an excellent shower and breakfast (and suit press if you need it)
Hope that all helps!
