I try to travel with Delta as much as I can, but out of DSM they seem to usually be the most expensive option. The upcoming trip is no exception. It is about $200-300 more expensive to fly DSM > DTW/MSP > YYZ than it is to fly DSM > ATL > MCO/MIA/FLL > ATL > YYZ.

I could fly to BUF and drive to Toronto but I think the car rental, fuel, and parking in downtown Toronto would negate much of the savings for doing so. Plus I would have less time with my client on Thursday when I am supposed to head back to DSM.

Does anyone have any ideas to make this a cheaper flight without the hassle of going back and forth to ATL and some other connection(s)? I'd hate to have to fly UA (where I have no status).
