Actually the Sofitel just across the water was renovated a 2 or 3 years ago I think. I stayed there last time and thought it was excellent.
That said the Club room I stayed in was perfectly pleasant. While I could see it was a bit frayed at the edges, I couldn't fault the cleanliness of it or the comfort of the bed, which gave me a really deep night's sleep.
The Club was perfectly pleasant too - and it's not dry. The waiters were the real difference - great and very gentle.
I just finished a great stay here. Excellent service throughout, especially in the Club. I don't know if the Club was renovated or not, but seemed perfectly fine to me.
