I always read it as "win". I guess it could be a subliminal marketing ploy.
Don't read too much into it - WN didn't pick WN as their code, it was picked for them by the IATA decades ago, and Herb didn't like it. The IATA didn't care...as at the time WN was a pipsqueak airline with one plane and no clout...so it stuck. The rest is history...
