I don't think an analog VGA is
that inferior. My PC setup (which I rarely use) has a VGA analog signal from the video card to the monitor. It looks great.
Even if he won't be able to reap the benefits of an actual monitor through a VGA cable, it's still future-proofing. I simply can't imagine reading text off of a TV screen on a daily basis.
