Seems to be par for the course these days with inconsistency in the calling centre! Seems to be many reports here of people getting different answers to the same issue when dealing with calling centre. [The biggest roulette seems to be whether they will waive phone fees for bookings/changes that cant be made online]
not that I blame the staff, given the bewildering rate with which the airline announces new and often confusing and poorly implemented "improvements"
