I carry printouts because electronic devices can be lost/stolen, get dead batteries, or otherwise malfunction. A few pieces of paper aren't a lot to carry just in case.
That is interesting. Were they trying to avoid the Argentine visa reciprocity fee or had they had a long duration stay in the country before that arrival?
I have entered Argentina at EZE hundreds of times as a US citizen and I have never had EZE passport control ask me for copies of any of my travel plans. Nor have they asked any in my family -- including the "brown" people, some of whom are muslim -- who have been there only once or twice.
