For what dates is that magical €140 rate you are talking about? Nothing seems to go for less than €200 and that is for one of their crappy "classic" rooms. You know, one of those broom closets they sell.
Is it really surprising that four days after the sale started most of the ultra-cheap inventory is gone?
140 for the Pulitzer is like 300 for Vendome...
Preconceived?
Toured the property, was shown all I needed to see and that's about it...
Not really rocket science to predict, maybe even preconceive that the Andaz in AMS will go the London, maybe even Barsey way...
That would at least give us some reasinable rates, albeit only for the weekend periods...
So once again, this is by no means a terrible hotel.

But as you have pointed out as well, it is too expensive and even as a Diamond, one should not expect a suite or anything special ( e.g. free parking as originally communicated by a hotel, a $ 60-90 value per night in the neigborhood... )
Without any doubt whatsoever, no fellow FT'er should pay more than $ 400 to stay at the Andaz Amsterdam, especially if you find a very good value and save ~ $ 200-250 at the Pulitzer up or down the canal.
So under the bottom line, a very solid hotel ( as expected ) but poor communication and no hype whatsoever around the property at all...
If a new Hyatt opens its doors in Europe, there is excitement, people are looking forward to stay there, but so far in and around AMS, there is really nothing, except the fact that the place is overpriced. And even the latest opening in DUS was not without any problems.
We are still talking about the Andaz Amsterdam and not a Holiday Inn Express Charleroi-East
