What business is it of yours how much the company paid for the item? That is a trade secret that they aren't likely to want to reveal to their competitors. You can compare how much other stores are selling the same item for and purchase accordingly. Why do you need to know the markup?
+1 This is insane. It's amazing how so many people are so willing to undermine basic principles that allow capitalism to function. This has been tried before, with disastrous results.
Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of examples in the market of sleazy bait-and-switch tactics that we can rightly deplore. But it does not automatically follow that the government should regulate all manner of voluntary transactions between consenting actors.
