LED is the type of backlighting. LCD is the type of screen like Plasma or CRT. Most LCD monitors use fluorescent light as a light source. The new trend is moving to the more efficient LED light source. The quality of a computer image on a TV screen can be hit or miss. I would probably focus on the the most pixels possible for a TV which would be a 1080p (HD) screen.
