On 1 July 2013 the ‘new Germanwings’ will be launched. An airline with new offers and a modern product and service concept which, in future, will operate all current Lufthansa European flights, with the exception of those operating out of Frankfurt and Munich.
We are aware that this decision may cause our most loyal customers some concern. Changed market conditions have persuaded us to go down this route to ensure that we will still be able to offer you a high-quality product experience throughout Europe in the future.
We want to set new standards in the airline industry with innovative offers. With a flexible system of fares, for example, which will enable you to pick and choose an individual package from an ‘à la carte fare menu’ that ranges from a cheap, no frills travel offer through to a high-quality flight experience with many amenities and extras.
This ‘menu’ will include a ‘Best’ fare, for which we will reserve a seat for you in the three foremost rows in the cabin. Here you will enjoy a very generous seat pitch of 32 inches and the middle seat in the row will be kept free, as is already the practice in Lufthansa Business Class. Other components of the ‘Best’ fare will be HON Circle miles, access to Lufthansa lounges, priority check-in, use of the fast lane at security, a double free baggage allowance (2 x 23 kg), à la carte in-flight catering and flexibility in terms of rebooking and cancelling your ticket.
As a Miles & More Senator you will also receive the usual award and status miles as well as an Executive Bonus of 25% on all the miles you earn with Germanwings, plus access to more lounges. In addition, you will have the option of taking companions into the lounges with you for 50% fewer miles.
It was particularly important to me to inform you personally, as a loyal Lufthansa customer, about these changes at an early stage. I do hope that we can continue to welcome you on board our flights in the future.
