Thanks for the tip.
After your tip, I checked my credit card issuer and found that no credit was pending from Delta. I immediately called Delta to verify the status and indeed, it hadn't been processed. Mileage had been immediately credited back in October.

I made a online award cancellation on October 25, 2012 (40 days ago).
