I was forced to be behind two older (65-70ish) pax at TSA at ABQ last week. They naturally did not prepare for the TSA check, and had all their jewelry and accessories still on..watches, belts, earrings, cufflinks..and pockets full of coin and other misc. items. They began the prep routine at the xray and it took them a long time. I was waiting for them to get prepped for 4 or 5 minutes. It was annoying, but it got worse on the other side of the xray, as they decided to put themselves back together right there by the belt as everyone else's stuff piled up.
I get that they were old, but I don't think they were unaware because they KNEW what they had to do. Nobody was helping them or telling them what to take off...but they chose to do it at the last second. Once again it's a common sense thing..move your stuff out of the way. There are signs everywhere telling you what you need to do...take off your stuff, empty your pockets, move your stuff to the benches where everyone else is putting themselves back together.
Most frequent fliers get all that out of the way before even getting into line. Before I head to security, I take it all off, put it into my bag, and only have my bp and id in my pocket. On a good day, I am in and out in under 45 seconds.
