My advice would be to change your VIE booking to 2 straight Avios redemptions. If you have to cancel your wife's at <t-24 then c'est la vie (sic).
However, your 2-4-1 can still be used to book now, prior to expiry for flights in the future, since the expiry date, I believe, is for booking and not the travelling.
