I've looked at CX's published fares for PER-SGN and they look very odd... The only two published business class fares are JOW5 and JRT5 (presumably for one way and return travel). They don't appear to be constructed or IATA fares (though the rules for each do make reference to YY fares... ), and your routing appears to be within a few miles of MPM+25% (which for this route would be 4665 miles). There are no TPDs listed. If AA are using a larger mileage number for either or both flights, this could easily put your routing over MPM+25% and into two awards.

What I find very odd is that for CX to fly you from PER to SGN you'd have to change in HKG. PER-HKG-SGN is 4658 miles flown (according to the Great Circle Mapper). So why would CX publish a MPM-based fare where the only routing would well exceed MPM? Also, I'm thrown off by the reference to other airlines and YY fares in the routing rules on these...

I'm not an expert, but my two guesses are that AA believe you're exceeding MPM+25%, or that these fares look like CX fares but are actually YY (IATA) fares and therefore not usable for mileage redemption. I'll leave it to the experts to possibly correct me and steer you in an even clearer direction.

Hi yes, its only a transit in HKG - in at 3pm and out at the next flight to PER.

I'm not sure how to go oneworld from SGN - PER without having to transit in HKG using CX. There are no other routings that I can think of! (Also, when I meant published fare I was talking about being able to book an award ticket + revenue ticket both on CX's website.)

Update: In the end, the agent I spoke to placed me on hold and spoke to some other department. She confirmed that I was able to do SGN - PER for 35K so will be looking to ticket it soon (that was after I said I booked PER - HAN for 35K points and SGN / HAN are in the same zone)

Interesting if not frustrating exercise.
