T.A. won't pay directly. They will pay their press flacks (AKA P.R. folks) to get them in to print. Also, look carefully at the ads in a given magazine and see how they correlate to the amount of coverage an individual or company receives. Fashion mags, as well as city mags, (think Los Angeles magazine) just "happen" to mention Santa Barbara (as an example) when lots of ad pages are devoted to Santa Barbara businesses. Working in P.R., many years ago, was a true eye-opener for me. Even recipes in a newspaper food section are often a result of a P.R. push by the peanut growers assn, etc.
