The real problem is the absurd requirement to produce a paper copy of an electronic ticket. That's not 9W's fault.
The check-in counters should be outside the secure zone; then, to enter the secure zone you show the bp. This works everywhere else in the world.
I realize that India has a special problem that any uncontrolled area fills up with people hanging around, but that should be dealt with some other way, e.g. by designing the terminal so that check-in occurs at the roadside. What is not desirable is to have a unique-in-all-the-world rule to show a printout of the electronic ticket, especially since it's something that can be faked in 5 minutes. This makes India look silly to foreigners.
