One thing to keep in mind for your planning--in the evening they close down the entire strip to vehicular traffic. It's pedestrians only, although I suspect the monorail still runs.
As of last year the monorail does indeed run. Lines will be very long after midnight. I strongly suggest getting on at the MGM.
