My Hen and I just returned today from a 4 night stay at the GH, NY. We had a single king for my sister and her hubby, I used a diamond upgrade for a jr. suite and had it upgraded to a full suite for an additional consideration.

No issues with the maid service. We left a daily tip for the maid, I don't know what my sister did The rooms were done as well as our stays at the DoubleTree or the Towers.

Water was fine for the showers, 16 showers over 4 days. Never ran out of hot water and pressure was good.

I never saw the diamond desk un-staffed, and used it a lot the first two days (due to key issues, the suite door just did not like to open from time to time). One staff member, who I met on the first day, remembered me each time I came there and greeted me by name. Golly, like a Ritz or a Park.

The lounge was truly an honor bar (unlike last New Year's when we stayed here and the attendant made sure that he did all the pours). Fill your glass to the brim with the fine Canvas Chardonnay, for only $9 or up scale to Columbia Crest for $11. Better yet, just don't fill out the slip and it's free! The attendants are too busy to catch everyone.

Lounge offerings were good, better then most Hiltons or Marriotts, not up to the level of a Ritz. A couple of days, we got by with the lounges breakfast and 'dinner snacks' offerings after having a huge lunch. (Try Wo Hop in China Town).

We've been to the GH, NY twice now. It's not the Towers (haven't been at the Towers has done away with the 'dinner' lounge) but I think it is a better value with the addition of having a great location next to Grand Central.

Now, if they could just train those convention attendees from Minnesota on how to act in a big city <grin>.
