If you're not getting your upgrades at the right window or at all when you are rightfully entitled to them, that's a problem you can take up with the Gold desk. Tools like ExpertFlyer can help you seek out the U space necessary for your upgrade to clear, and now that AS publishes the upgrade waitlist, you can monitor your status there on the day of departure.

If your complaint is with the amount of U space released, there's no real feedback for you to give. AS is not going to give away seats for upgrade if people are willing to pay full price for them, no matter how important you think you are. If you want the seat, pay for it. Otherwise, take your place in line.

That said, I have been near 100% this year as a 75K on many trips, mostly to California, but several mid- and trans-cons sprinkled throughout. I attribute that mostly to buying well in advance, and tending to purchase the lower fares which is usually indicative of low demand for the flight in general, and from (elite) business travelers specifically. If you're buying tickets close-in on business heavy flights, you will obviously be lower on the upgrade list.

It would be helpful if you could clarify whether your argument is with the upgrade process not automatically clearing you when there is U space and it should, or whether you just feel there should be more U space earlier/in general.
