That would depend very much on how much one spends per month, and where one wants to fly.
How about the first question?
1. How does one get substantial miles to fly Business class on AA. Since AA credit cards have no multipliers (like Chase Ink, Hilton Amex etc).. It seems like it will take a lot of spending.
The SPG Amex card effectively earns 1.25 AA miles per $1 charged, but that's still a lot of spending.
If you have $200,000 in cash under the mattress, you can put it in a BankDirect checking account, and earn 20,000 AA miles per month. But BD will charge you a $12/month account fee.
Fidelity Investments periodically offers large mileage bonuses for large initial investments ($50,000-$100,000).
