I was thinking of the "co-ordination of countries keeping this data up to date" bit and took that to indicate (the horror of) a global database of passports and citizenships.
I'm sure that what you suggest is possible, but why would they want to do it? Woudn't this be better left to the local experts who will be sitting at desks just down the passageway on the way to the departure dates?
