It does however put the airline in the chain of responsibility for something they have neither control over, nor any pressing reason to get involved in.

They are responsible for ensuring that they only carry passengers with the correct documents to enter or transit their destination so that is what they check.

All passengers are responsible for getting from land-side to air-side in time to reach their flight. That means clearing any exit requirements for the country of origin, not trying to carry prohibited goods though security etc.

If you are going to have the airline check for dual-nationality, how about checking for liquids, firearms and other prohibited goods that could stop you getting through as well?
