If it was only so easy... The problem with filling up at a farther station is that you will be driving some additional miles after the fill up. The station would then try to top off the car after they close out the receipt with you and then add the fuel charge for the miles you drove from the farther gas station to Hertz, after you have already left! This is known to happen.
